About Tourist Taxes

Tourist Taxes explains what visitors pay in tourist taxes and visitor levies around the world: how much, on what, who is exempt and who collects it. It started with the UK's new visitor levies (Edinburgh from July 2026, Wales from 2027, England's mayors next), which leave travellers and hosts with the same questions, and covers the European and worldwide taxes UK travellers meet most.

Each place's figures come from the council, government or tax authority that sets them, with reputable news coverage only where an official page isn't available. Every place page lists its sources and the date we last checked them. We're independent: not a council, tax authority or booking site.

How we work

Every figure on this site comes from a source we link to: the maker, the regulator, the government or published research. We check pages regularly and show the date each one was last checked at the top. If you spot something wrong or out of date, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.

We don't accept payment to change what we say about a product, and we never claim to have tested something we haven't.
