How the Paris tax works
Paris's taxe de séjour is charged per adult per night and rises with the star rating, from €2.60 in a 1-star hotel to €15.93 in a palace hotel (2026 rates). The totals include three surcharges on top of the city's own rate: 10% for the département, 15% for the region and 200% for Île-de-France Mobilités, the region's transport authority. That 200% surcharge, added in 2024, is why the Paris tax tripled.
Unclassified rentals, which covers most Airbnb-style flats, pay 5% of the price per person per night before VAT, plus the same surcharges, capped at the palace rate of €15.93 per person per night. There is no cap on nights. Under-18s pay nothing.

Who is exempt
- Under-18s.
- Seasonal workers employed in Paris, and people in emergency or temporary housing.
Who collects it
Your hotel or host collects it and files a monthly return with the City of Paris. Platforms that take the payment (such as Airbnb and Booking.com) collect it for the host.
Not yet confirmed
We couldn't confirm these from an official source, so treat them with care:
- The effective rate for unclassified lets (16.25%, that is 5% plus the surcharges) is from a specialist site; the official page gives the 5% and the €15.93 ceiling.
- The exemptions are the national rules as reported; we could not open the legal text.
