Tourist taxes around the world
Outside Europe, tourist taxes come in more shapes: per-night charges set by price band (Kyoto, Tokyo), percentages on the room (New York, Hawaii), one-off entry fees (Bali, New Zealand, the Galápagos) and Bhutan's US$100-a-night development fee.

- Tokyo moves to 3% of the room price per person per night from 1 April 2027: details.
- Thailand: a 450 baht entry fee for foreign visitors was approved in principle in August 2026 and consulted on until 28 September 2026. It still needs Cabinet approval; the target is air arrivals from early 2027. Not charged yet. Nation Thailand, 30 August 2026
