How the Greece tax works
Greece's climate crisis resilience fee went up on 1 January 2025. It is charged per room (or apartment) per night, not per person, and depends on the star rating or type of accommodation and the season: April to October costs more than November to March. A 5-star hotel room costs €15 a night in summer and €4 in winter.
Cruise passengers pay a separate fee per port call, highest at Santorini and Mykonos in summer (reported as €20 per passenger from June to September, €5 at other ports).

Worked example
Example: Two adults and a 6-year-old share one room in a 4-star hotel for 7 nights in August.
4-star hotel, April to October: €10 per room per night. €70 in tax.
Who is exempt
- Free stays are not charged.
- There is no age exemption: it is charged per room, not per person.
Who collects it
Your hotel or host charges it per room per night on a separate receipt and pays the Greek tax authority (AADE) monthly.
