How the Rome tax works
Rome's contributo di soggiorno is charged per person per night, for up to 10 consecutive nights (5 on campsites). The rates rose on 1 October 2023 and have not changed since: from €4 in a 1-star hotel to €10 in a 5-star, and €6 in B&Bs and short lets. Children under 10 pay nothing.

Worked example
Example: Two adults and a 7-year-old stay 4 nights in a 3-star hotel.
3-star hotel: €6 per person per night. €48 in tax.
Some children pay less or nothing because of their age.
Who is exempt
- Children under 10.
- Rome residents, patients and their companions, and police on duty.
- One coach driver and one guide per 23 people in organised groups.
Who collects it
Your hotel or host collects it and pays Roma Capitale.
